We each have our own unique responsibility to leave a legacy as global citizens.
It was my privilege and honor to have been able to represent the United Nations Association USA - Greater Birmingham, Alabama Chapter at the 2018 Global Engagement Summit at United Nations Headquarters in New York City. It was a day filled with knowledge, inspiration and a plan for action as we all should strive to be participating citizens of the world to be the change in order to make a change. It is not a matter of race, religion, nationality, political affiliation, education, gender and / or socioeconomic status as we all should unite for a better world and partner to achieve the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development by 2030.
My favorite quote is, “Genius is making complex ideas simple, not making simple ideas complex.” I live and operate under this each day as I strive to develop and nurture relationships just as the UN made this Global Goal #17, “Partnership” in its global objective.
To make all the goals a reality will require the participation of everyone. That includes governments, the private sector, civil society organizations and people like you! The best part is that we don't have to work alone. If we join forces and partner we can get there faster and succeed on each goal. I am committed, both on a personal and professional level as I have traveled all over the world and during visits to all 7 continents have seen the need to raise awareness of global issues that impact all countries including the United States.
